As Wednesday turned out to be a beautiful day in an otherwise rainy week I decided to skip work and go exploring. As I was driving through Amherst a parking spot opened up right next to where the carnies were setting up for the Amherst Rotary Community Fair. I took that as a sign to pull over and take some pictures.
Somehow I don't remember the carnival in my hometown being as bright and colorful as this one is. I remember our local Firemans Carnival as rather dingy with burnt out light bulbs and peeling paint. There was also a beer garden, a dunking booth, bingo and fireworks. Funny how all of those things seem to fit there but when I picture them on the Amherst Green they seem so... provincial.

Looks like the carnies have cleaned up their act a bit. I'd like to see the Cliff Hanger when it opens. Think we can still get on for free?
